The Widdle Doggie Page
The above doggie is Widdle Doggie |
Widdle Doggie is quite a legend in my family. He was given as a present to myself, David Ross, circa 1978-1980. It is not entirely clear, but we believe he was given by a friend of my grandfather, but that friend is no longer living, and so this can't be verified. It is also believed that he originally had some sort of ribbon around his neck, but that is long gone. In fact, much of Widdle Doggie's "life" is shrouded in mystery. Widdle Doggie really isn't as red as he looks in the picture up top. He's really a bit more grey. I digitally colorized a black & white picture of him, but at the time I didn't actually have Widdle Doggie in front of me. Check out the Widdle Gallery to see the original picture. I think the colorized one turned out quite well. My motivation for actually creating this page was to find others out there with this same stuffed doggie. If you've got one too, drop me some e-mail! There's more info about this later on in the page. |
Widdle Doggie Timeline |
|
~1979 | Given to myself as a present. |
???? | Lost under the black couch. |
???? + ~5 years | FOUND!!! Subsequently declared to be my younger brother's stuffed animal by my parents! Argh. |
???? | I am BANNED from saying "Widdle Doggie" because I tease my brother too much! I start calling Widdle Doggie "WD," and the name sticks. This is where the distinction had to be made, "Widdle Doggie" or "Little Doggie." I picked the former, because that's just how it's said. |
???? | Under the couch AGAIN! It's like he wants to get away from us or something. |
???? + ~6 months | Well, it was a different couch, but we found him. Smooshed face down in the rug. It took a while for him to look normal again. |
???? | Accidentally put in the laundry! Wow, he's white and fluffy! (Note: We won't do this again, as we believe he could fall apart at this stage in his life.) |
???? | Thrown in the trash by accident! Fortunately he was found soon after this. This was probably the closest Widdle Doggie has ever come to his demise. |
???? | I noticed he was a bit short on plastic pebbles. Before fixing the leak, I pepped him up with some ripped up tissue paper. This is another reason we won't attempt to wash him now. Anyone know where we can get replacement plastic pebbles? |
